Introducing Your Founding Friendly Neighborhood Theologian

Hello all! My name is Ethan. I am the administrator of this blog site, alongside my wife, Ellie who runs our social media accounts! As I am working on developing articles for this blog, it is an ideal time for me to introduce myself and share a little bit about my background and my heart and hope for this blog.

I was born in southern Colorado and have lived in this beautiful state for my whole life. As for my academic background, I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Theology and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Colorado Christian University. Hence, the inspiration for this site. I hope to pursue a doctoral degree in theology or a related field in the future!

Outside of this, I work full-time at a Christian non-profit in Denver. I also am an Affiliate Faculty for the School of Biblical and Theological Studies in the College of Adult and Graduate Studies at my alma mater, CCU. I will teach my first theology courses in the fall and I am beyond excited about that.

The Heart Behind YFNT

I love theology. For me it has opened my eyes to the glory and grandeur of God and his truly beautiful and wondrous creation in a way that I had never known prior to studying it. Theology is not only a discipline for me, but it is how I worship. So, it is my hope that this blog will serve a number of purposes. First, I hope and pray it will be a place where seekers and wonderers can find ideas that are meaningful for their lives regardless of their faith backgrounds. For people of faith, specifically the Christian faith, I hope this is a place where weary travelers find some rest in the Lord.

Regardless of audience, I will produce content not only about theological truths and ideas, but philosophical quandaries, and ethical considerations. In addition to these things, I also plan to include commentary on culture in general, trends, phenomena, etc. This may include movie and tv show reviews (I am fascinated by the messages meanings that lurk inside the cultural texts and tales we call movies!), book reviews, the occasional commentary on various high interest topics. As I expand this site I hope to provide accompanying YouTube videos in addition to supplemental social media posts.

A Lifetime Learner and Worshipper

I am also here to learn along the way. I believe it is important to be a lifelong student. This is one way I can continue my own journey as a learner. As I referenced earlier, it is also an opportunity for worship. It is worshipful to write, to contemplate, and to meditate on the Lord and what we know to be his Word. I hope to expand on this idea more in a future post as well! It is good to engage the Lord with our minds and thoughts, in addition to our feelings and emotions.

I know that the word “theology” has been thrown around a number of times in this post. I will also get around to defining it for you, and describing its many facets and sub-disciplines. Another hope and goal of this blog is for people to not see theology as threatening or dry, but as a well of wisdom and wonder.

In Conclusion

I hope and pray that my love for the Lord and for people shines through this website and to you, the reader. Until my next post, I will leave you with a quote from one of my favorite theologians, St. Augustine of Hippo in his famous Confessions that resonates deep within my soul and self. “You stir us so that praising you may bring us joy, because you have made us and drawn us to yourself, and our heart is restless until it finds rest in you” (Augustine, Confessions).

Go in grace and peace,

Ethan
